Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has reportedly reconciled with his estranged father, Fatai Odunsi, after a viral video sparked controversy over allegations of neglect. In the video, Odunsi, who has been partially paralyzed following a stroke, publicly called out Asake for failing to support him despite the singer’s rising fame and success. The 63-year-old father had pleaded for financial assistance to cover his medical bills and living expenses, which prompted widespread public outcry and criticism of the “Lonely at the Top” crooner.
However, during a recent interview with digital creator Aki Abolade, better known as Mrlilgaga, Odunsi shared that Asake had contacted him and promised to help. “He (Asake) has said they should look for a house that he will buy for me, and they have been looking for it since yesterday (Saturday). He has started doing it,” Odunsi said in Yoruba, expressing gratitude and pride for his son’s response.
Odunsi also clarified that his initial frustration stemmed from not seeing Asake for an extended period. “His mother ought to ask him, ‘When was the last time you saw your father?’ That was what infuriated me, but we have settled everything,” he explained. Odunsi further assured the public that there were no longer any issues between him and Asake, as the singer had reached out and committed to resolving the matters raised.
The controversy began when Odunsi appeared in the viral video on Thursday, claiming that he had not seen his son since 2022 when his health began to deteriorate. Despite Asake’s fame, Odunsi alleged that he had not received any financial support. This led to widespread discussion on social media, with many questioning Asake’s relationship with his father.
Asake responded to the public backlash through a TikTok video, where he sang in Yoruba, saying, “You can’t please everyone, you can’t please the world. But anything you are doing, just do it for God.” He also defended himself by claiming that he had already sent significant amounts of money to his father, adding, “My own father wants to cajole me, and I have sent so much money to him.”
Adding fuel to the drama, Asake’s alleged baby mama, identified as Adijat, also came forward with claims that the singer had neglected their 11-year-old daughter, Zeenat. In a live TikTok chat, Adijat accused Asake of abandoning her and their daughter after he became famous. “I have an 11-year-old daughter for Asake. Before he became famous, I always supported him,” Adijat stated, claiming that Asake had sent her only N1 million after gaining success, and had blocked her when she attempted to communicate about their daughter.
In response, Odunsi confirmed that Asake had agreed to take responsibility for his daughter. “He (Asake) has said he will take care of her,” Odunsi affirmed. He also dismissed rumors on social media, denying any irresponsibility on his part.
