In a surprising revelation, Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido shared that he has never met American rapper Nicki Minaj in person, despite having collaborated with her on multiple tracks. Speaking on a recent episode of the Bootleg Kev podcast, Davido opened up about their virtual partnership, explaining how their collaborations came to fruition without ever physically crossing paths.
The two artists have worked together on two songs, including the popular 2020 track “Holy Ground,” and most recently, Nicki Minaj’s anniversary album, “Pink 3.” However, their musical partnership has only ever been conducted through digital communication. “You know the crazy thing? I have never met her. It’s crazy. We speak on the phone all the time,” Davido revealed. “The first time we linked was through DM.”
According to Davido, their initial connection came when he noticed Nicki Minaj was following him on social media. He decided to reach out, sending her a direct message. “I texted her. I woke up the next morning and saw her reply. I was shocked,” Davido recalled. “I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested. I think it was 2019 or 2020. I sent her the record, and two days later, she sent me her verse.”
Despite not meeting in person, the two continued to work together. They planned to shoot a video for “Holy Ground” in Los Angeles, but the plans were delayed as Minaj was expecting her child at the time. However, their professional bond remained strong. “We’ve always been close since then. She hit me again with the record last year for Pink 3, I think her anniversary album. She’s always supportive. She’s amazing,” Davido said.
