The defamation lawsuit involving Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), and renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) alongside his son, musician Falz, has been postponed. Justice Mathias Dawodu of the Lagos High Court in Ikeja announced that the case will now be heard on January 23, 2025. The postponement follows reports that several applications from both parties were missing from the court file, preventing the case from proceeding.
The legal battle began after the Falanas initiated a defamation lawsuit against VDM, accusing him of posting defamatory content online. The allegations stem from a series of posts made by VDM that allegedly tarnished the reputations of both Femi and Folarin Falana. The case has attracted significant attention, given the high-profile nature of both the Falanas and VDM in Nigerian media.
Despite the delay, VDM, who has become known for his controversial online presence, seemed unbothered by the postponement. Just minutes after the decision was made, he took to social media, sharing a video of himself showcasing his dance moves. In the video, he exuded confidence and expressed his appreciation for his legal team, which he praised for their support.
“Nobody get Nigeria, at the end them no be God,” VDM wrote in his caption, a statement that many observers interpreted as a subtle jab at the Falanas. His comment reflects his defiant stance throughout the proceedings, and he has made it clear that he is not intimidated by the lawsuit or its potential consequences.
Earlier, VDM attracted further attention when he arrived at the court dressed in traditional priest-like attire, accompanied by his legal team. The spectacle garnered significant media coverage, drawing both criticism and admiration. His choice of attire seemed to play into his persona as a figure who thrives on public attention and controversy.
