Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the daughter of former Delta State Governor Chief James Ibori and representative of Ethiope Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, has officially described her defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the best decision of her political career. The lawmaker made this statement during a constituency empowerment program where she distributed various items to her constituents, including vehicles, motorcycles, sewing machines, and water pumps.
In her address, Ibori-Suenu accused the PDP of trying to stifle her political aspirations, claiming that the party was working against her growth. “We will bury PDP in Ologbo River, the bridge between Delta and Edo States. I am already at home; APC is supreme. The people in PDP wanted to kill my political aspirations, but thank God, I have finally left,” she said, expressing her relief at making the decision to join the APC.
Ibori-Suenu also took the opportunity to thank her supporters and APC leaders for their encouragement and backing during this transition. She reiterated her belief that the move to the APC would provide the necessary platform for her to better serve her constituents and further her political goals.
Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the immediate past Deputy Senate President, praised Ibori-Suenu’s defection, calling her a “political bulldozer.” He emphasized that her move to the APC would strengthen the party’s position, particularly in Delta State, ahead of the 2027 elections. “With Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu’s support, the APC is better positioned to take over Delta. Her energy and dedication will greatly strengthen our chances,” Omo-Agege remarked.
Ibori-Suenu’s defection is seen as a significant development in the political landscape of Delta State, especially in the Ethiope Federal Constituency. Her decision to leave the PDP has sent ripples across the state, indicating a shift in the region’s political dynamics and potentially altering the balance of power.
The lawmaker’s move is expected to have far-reaching implications in the coming years, as she brings with her considerable influence and support from her political base.
