Activist Aisha Yesufu has spoken out about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, where tensions between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly, which is loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have reached new heights. The disagreement between Fubara and Wike has been brewing since the governor’s election, but the situation escalated when reports surfaced on March 17 that the House of Representatives had begun impeachment proceedings against Fubara.
The feud between Governor Fubara and his former mentor, Nyesom Wike, who is also the immediate past governor of Rivers State, has been a source of tension in the state’s political landscape. The relationship soured after Fubara assumed office, leading to a series of political confrontations. Now, with impeachment proceedings underway, the dispute is on the verge of further escalating into a full-blown political crisis.
In response to the development, activist Aisha Yesufu, known for her outspoken stance on various social and political issues, expressed her opinion on the situation via a social media post. Yesufu shared that, if given the chance, she would ask Governor Fubara to step aside for two weeks so she could govern Rivers State. In her words, “Kai! Na dis kind fight I for like buy ooooo! I for ask Fubara to step aside for the next two weeks make I be Governor of Rivers State! We go kukuma know say nobody has monopoly of anyhowness! E pain me!”
Yesufu’s post has stirred significant conversation on social media, as she seems to mock both Fubara and Wike’s leadership styles. The activist, who is a vocal advocate for good governance and accountability, suggested that her time in office would show that no one has a monopoly on “misbehavior” or poor leadership. Her comment reflects her frustration with the ongoing political drama that has gripped Rivers State.
The House of Representatives’ move to impeach Governor Fubara has only intensified the political standoff, with various factions within the state aligning themselves with either Fubara or Wike. The governor, who was once seen as Wike’s protégé, now faces the threat of impeachment after less than a year in office.
