The recently unveiled nomination list for the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) has sparked discussions across social media, with many questioning the absence of celebrated actress and box office star Funke Akindele. While several top productions made the cut, Akindele was notably missing from individual categories, despite her involvement in the industry’s biggest projects.

Released on Sunday, March 23, the nomination list included highly acclaimed films such as Seven Doors by Femi Adebayo and Lisabi by Lateef Adedimeji. However, Akindele’s fans were quick to notice that while House of Gaa, a project she was part of, received a nomination, she herself was not recognized. Additionally, her 2024 release, Everybody Loves Jenifa, failed to secure a spot in any category.

This omission has led to widespread speculation online, with many fans expressing their disappointment. Some believe Akindele’s contributions to the industry deserved acknowledgment, given her consistent track record of producing successful films. One social media user wrote, “Funke Akindele has been dominating the box office. How is she not nominated?”

This isn’t the first time questions have been raised about Akindele’s recognition at the AMVCAs. In the 10th edition of the awards, her blockbuster *A Tribe Called Judah* earned multiple nominations, including Best Movie, Best Lead Actress, and Best Writing in a Movie, yet it failed to secure a single win. The outcome left many fans frustrated, with some accusing the awards of sidelining one of Nollywood’s biggest names.

Despite this, Funke Akindele remains one of the most decorated stars in AMVCA history. She holds the record for the highest number of nominations as an actress and filmmaker, with six wins to her name. Over the years, she has taken home multiple Best Actress in a Comedy awards, as well as Best Actress in a Drama and Best Director.

With the AMVCAs scheduled to take place later this year, the debate over Funke Akindele’s absence highlights the ever-present discourse on award recognition and merit in Nollywood.
