Halima Abubakar, the popular Nollywood actress, has publicly apologized to Nigerian cleric Apostle Johnson Suleman, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, for defaming him. In her apology, Abubakar admitted to spreading falsehoods against Suleman and acknowledged the pain she caused him through her social media statements. This marked a significant turn in a controversy that has been unfolding since 2022.
The drama between Abubakar and Suleman began when the actress became bedridden following an altercation with the clergyman. During her illness, Abubakar’s family took to social media, urging Suleman to stay away from her, which further fueled the public feud. However, many speculated that Abubakar was suffering from an autoimmune disease, a claim she later debunked by sharing her medical report.
In a heartfelt letter sent to Suleman, Abubakar expressed deep regret for tarnishing his image and hoped that her apology could help repair some of the damage done. She wrote, “I admit that I made false allegations against you and also regret my action and the damage I caused to you, your wife, Dr. Lizzy Suleman, your family, and the leaders of the Omega Fire Ministry.”
Abubakar recognized the weight of her words, stating, “With this letter, I humbly ask for forgiveness, recognizing that my apology cannot undo the harm, pain, and distress I caused.” She implored Suleman to find a place in his heart to forgive her, emphasizing that her mindset at the time was not right.
In her concluding remarks, she added, “I’m truly sorry for all the hurts and distress I caused you, your family, and ministry.” Her apology has been met with a mix of reactions on social media, as many followers have rallied to support both parties.
