Popular Nigerian comedian Nosa Afolabi, better known as Lasisi Elenu, has publicly expressed his discontent with the state of Nigeria’s economy in a private conversation with former President Muhammadu Buhari. Elenu, renowned for his unique comedic style, shared an intimate voice note from Instagram, where he poured out his frustration over the rising costs of living, particularly the soaring prices of food and petrol.

In his heartfelt message to Buhari, Elenu can be heard sobbing as he reflects on the current economic hardships Nigerians are facing. “Boss, good evening sir, how is work and the family?” he began, before revealing his concerns. “I’m not sending you this message on behalf of anyone, I owe it to myself and my family.” The comedian’s voice was filled with emotion as he lamented the struggles of everyday Nigerians in the wake of soaring inflation and other economic difficulties.

Elenu explained that he never imagined himself being in such a position. “To be honest, I never thought I would be here doing this by this time,” he said, his voice cracking with emotion. The comedian admitted he was unsure of how to even express his feelings, but his deep sense of frustration was palpable. “I feel like I’m trying my best to keep myself as respectful,” he continued, clearly upset by the situation.

He went on to emphasize how much he missed Buhari’s leadership, despite the challenges faced during his tenure. “I miss you, I miss you, I miss you, I miss you God,” he expressed, breaking down in tears during the message. Elenu’s words highlighted his longing for a different time and his apparent dissatisfaction with the current economic climate under President Bola Tinubu, who succeeded Buhari in May 2023.

Since Buhari’s exit from office, Nigerians have grappled with a host of economic challenges, including skyrocketing food prices, a surge in fuel costs, and increased foreign exchange rates. These issues have placed immense strain on citizens, especially those already struggling to make ends meet.
