Afrobeats sensation Ruger, whose real name is Michael Adebayo Olayinka, has revealed that 2025 will be the year he gets married. The “Asiwaju” singer made this announcement through a candid Snapchat post, citing the growing trend of people tying the knot as the motivation for his decision. He admitted that witnessing so many marriages around him led him to reflect on his own life, especially considering his impending milestone of turning 30.
“Everybody is just getting married. Got me questioning myself—how long will I continue this Playboy shiii? I’m settling down this year, period. I’ll soon be 30, tf,” Ruger shared with his followers. His revelation surprised many, as the singer has long been known for his carefree and flirtatious public persona, which he has previously described as a “playboy” lifestyle.
In the past, Ruger has openly discussed his complex views on love. He has previously suggested that it is possible for him to love five women equally at the same time, further emphasizing his tendency to fall in love easily. “Gifts and compliments make me develop feelings for women,” Ruger explained, shedding light on how his affection often begins. His past comments about love had reinforced his image as someone who was not ready to settle down, but it seems that has now changed.
Ruger’s decision to marry comes at a time when several other Nigerian celebrities are also considering taking the plunge into matrimony. The trend of marriage announcements among public figures has sparked conversations about the changing attitudes toward relationships in the entertainment industry.
A few weeks ago, Nigerian disc jockey Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, also made headlines with her own marriage intentions. On Valentine’s Day, she shared a heartfelt post on social media, expressing hope that it would be the last time she celebrated the occasion as an unmarried woman. “Happy #ValentinesDay to me! Manifesting that this is my last one unmarried. Lord, do your thing!” she wrote, sending out a prayer for her future.
DJ Cuppy, the 32-year-old billionaire heiress, has had a rollercoaster love life, with notable relationships, including a previous romance with former Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe. Their relationship ended in 2017 due to long-distance challenges, but Cuppy’s recent post suggests that she is now ready to embrace a new chapter of her life.
While Cuppy and Ruger are both setting their sights on marriage this year, they are not the only celebrities making such decisions. The entertainment industry has seen several public figures express their desire to settle down.
