Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a new phase in his political career. The former 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate announced his decision at a press conference in Ikeja, where he submitted his resignation letter to the party leadership.
While addressing journalists, Jandor hinted that his next political move would be revealed in the coming months. “I have taken the decision to leave the PDP after careful consideration, and in due time, I will inform Nigerians of my next steps,” he stated.
Jandor, a politician, journalist, entrepreneur, and technocrat, is also the Chairman of the Lagos4Lagos movement, a political group advocating for reforms and inclusivity in Lagos governance. His departure from the PDP has fueled speculations about his potential alliance with another political party.
His resignation comes nearly a year after he contested in the 2023 Lagos gubernatorial election alongside his running mate, Nollywood actress Funke Akindele. The duo ran under the PDP platform but lost to the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political analysts believe Jandor’s exit could impact the PDP’s structure in Lagos, as he was considered one of its most influential figures in the state. His Lagos4Lagos movement had previously strengthened the party’s grassroots reach, raising concerns about the opposition’s future without him.
Although he has not declared his next political affiliation, there are speculations that he may align with a ruling party or form a new political movement. His statement suggested a deliberate and strategic decision. “For me, politics is about service, and I remain committed to the people of Lagos,” Jandor remarked.
