Popular Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, has reacted to the arraignment and detention of his elder brother, Jude Okoye, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, February 26.
Jude Okoye was brought before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on a seven-count charge of alleged money laundering involving N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. The charges, according to the EFCC, stem from alleged financial misconduct tied to his business dealings.
Reacting to the development, Paul Okoye took to social media to express his support for his brother. “This too shall pass,” he wrote, urging Jude to “stay strong.” He also hinted at a possible external influence behind the situation, saying, “This is what someone wanted all along.” However, he did not specify who he was referring to.
The controversy surrounding Jude Okoye’s finances has been brewing for some time. Last year, Peter Okoye, Paul’s twin brother and former P-Square bandmate, revealed that he had filed a petition with the EFCC. Peter alleged that Jude had secretly opened a company and was diverting funds from their joint business into it.
Jude Okoye, however, denied the allegations, insisting that his company was not secret. He explained that while he and his brothers share a joint business, each of them also owns private companies. “Peter has P-Classic, Paul has Rude Boy Record, and I have mine,” Jude had previously stated, dismissing the accusations of misconduct.
