Tinubu Directs Ministers to Give Public Account of Their Stewardship

President Bola Tinubu has ordered all ministers in his administration to provide Nigerians with a detailed account of their work and achievements with immediate effect. This directive is aimed at enhancing transparency and keeping the public informed about government activities.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, February 11. He emphasized that the move aligns with the administration’s commitment to accountability.

Idris explained that the briefings will serve as an avenue for Nigerians to engage with the ministers, ask questions, and get firsthand updates on the government’s policies and programs. “These briefings will serve as a platform for ministers to directly engage with Nigerians, highlight key developments in their respective ministries, and address public concerns,” he said.

The directive follows Tinubu’s earlier requirement for ministers to sign performance guidelines before their swearing-in, reinforcing his administration’s emphasis on results-driven governance. The president expects ministers to periodically appear before the media to discuss their work.

To ensure consistent communication, the Federal Government has also commenced ministerial press briefings as part of its broader strategy to promote transparency. These sessions will provide a structured way for the government to share its progress with the public.

Idris noted that the press briefings would be held regularly, with different ministers taking turns each week to provide updates. This initiative is particularly significant as Tinubu’s administration approaches its second anniversary.

“The idea is to ensure that Nigerians are fully aware of what their government is doing. Ministers will be accountable for their portfolios and must share progress reports,” the Minister stated.

According to Idris, the government believes that direct communication between ministers and the public will help dispel misinformation and foster trust in the administration. He reassured Nigerians that the government remains committed to addressing key national challenges.
