A Nigerian vendor has publicly accused popular influencer Papaya Ex of failing to honor a paid appearance at her Ilaro trade fair despite receiving a full payment of ₦3 million. The vendor, who specializes in selling the popular snack Ilaro, has demanded a refund, claiming she was deceived.
According to the vendor, she had booked Papaya Ex for the event, scheduled for February 23rd, and had paid the influencer in full ahead of time. However, on the day of the event, Papaya Ex failed to appear, later sending a message stating that she had missed her flight due to a layover.
Doubting the influencer’s excuse, the vendor pointed out that just two days before the event, Papaya Ex had shared a Snapchat video of herself enjoying a vacation in Dubai. “How do you go from having fun in Dubai to missing a flight to my event? I feel scammed,” the vendor lamented, questioning the sincerity of the explanation.
Frustrated by the situation, the vendor demanded a full refund, insisting she would not rest until she got her money back. To add to the controversy, she also asked Papaya Ex to make a video explaining why she failed to attend the event, which the influencer eventually did.
Despite the vendor’s demands, Papaya Ex only refunded ₦1.5 million, returning half of the original payment. This partial refund has left the vendor unsatisfied, as she insists that the influencer did not fulfill any part of the agreement. “She didn’t show up, so why should I bear any loss? I want my full ₦3 million back,” the vendor stated.
Taking her grievance to the public, the vendor is now seeking support from social media users to pressure Papaya Ex into paying back the full sum. The issue has since gained traction online, with mixed reactions from the public—some supporting the vendor’s demand, while others argue that unforeseen circumstances may have played a role in Papaya Ex’s absence.
