Former President Muhammadu Buhari received a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at his residence in Kaduna on Monday, marking a significant gesture of goodwill following the completion of the Ramadan fasting period. The visit, led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, was aimed at offering Sallah greetings and congratulating the former president for successfully completing the month-long fast.
Governor Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), spoke to journalists after the meeting, emphasizing the importance of the visit. “This visit is symbolic and deeply rooted in respect, loyalty, and continued appreciation for the statesmanship, leadership, and legacy of President Muhammadu Buhari,” he remarked. He further noted that the gesture was one of unity and respect, demonstrating the governors’ ongoing commitment to Buhari’s legacy.
Uzodimma also highlighted the APC’s continued dedication to upholding the principles of good governance that Buhari championed during his presidency. “As a party, we remain united and committed to the ideals of good governance which he championed during his tenure,” he added, reaffirming the party’s shared values and vision for Nigeria’s future.
The delegation, which included notable APC governors from various states, took the opportunity to celebrate the spiritual and political leadership of Buhari. Among the governors who attended the meeting were Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Uba Sani of Kaduna, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa. Each leader was present to express their congratulations and solidarity with the former president during the Eid celebrations.
Other governors who joined the delegation were Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo. The group also included Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Usman Ododo of Kogi, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, and Hyacinth Alia of Benue. These leaders represent a broad cross-section of Nigeria’s political landscape, underscoring the APC’s unity and collective respect for Buhari’s leadership.
While the visit was framed around the Eid celebrations, it also served as an opportunity for the governors to reaffirm their political alignment and shared values within the APC. The former president, who has largely kept a low profile since leaving office, graciously received the governors and exchanged pleasantries with them, reinforcing the strong bond between him and the party.
