Cristiano Ronaldo, the star forward for Al Nassr, has admitted that his own son, Mateo, prefers Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé over him. Despite Ronaldo’s impressive brace in a recent Saudi Pro League victory, which saw him rise to the top of the league’s goal-scoring charts, his five-year-old son remains a fan of the French forward.
In a candid interview with La Sexta, Ronaldo shared a lighthearted moment about his son’s preference for Mbappé. “Mateo, he really likes Mbappé,” Ronaldo revealed, chuckling. “He sometimes tells me: ‘Hey dad, Mbappé is better than you,’ and I reply by saying: ‘No, I am better than him, I have scored more goals.’”
The revelation adds a personal touch to Ronaldo’s already celebrated career. Although he continues to dominate in the Saudi Pro League, his son’s admiration for Mbappé seems to highlight the younger generation’s growing affection for the French star. Despite being one of the greatest players of all time, Ronaldo’s playful banter with his son shows that even the most legendary figures are not immune to familial rivalry.
Mbappé, who has long been a fan of Ronaldo himself, has often spoken about how the Portuguese forward influenced his career. As one of the brightest talents in world football, Mbappé’s rise to prominence at PSG has been remarkable, and he has begun to emulate some of Ronaldo’s past achievements. After his hat-trick performance against Real Valladolid, Mbappé has now scored 15 goals in La Liga, placing him second in the Pichichi race behind Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski.
Ronaldo, for his part, is no stranger to setting records, having scored a club-record 450 goals for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018. His legacy at the Bernabéu is cemented, yet it’s clear that even with all his success, Ronaldo still faces competition for admiration within his own family.
