Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has threatened to sue the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for N5 billion over alleged defamatory statements. The threat comes after the APC claimed a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain was plotting a violent attack ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

According to the APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, a viral video showed a PDP chieftain discussing plans to bomb the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Osun State. The chieftain allegedly expressed concerns about the party’s chances of winning the 2026 election.

Olabisi condemned the PDP’s silence on the matter, stating that Governor Adeleke and his party were now “prime suspects” in the alleged plan. He urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate.

In response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, denied the allegations and threatened to sue Olabisi for N5 billion. Rasheed described Olabisi’s statement as “irresponsible” and demanded a retraction.

Rasheed stated, “The allegation is reprehensible, baseless, and defamatory… Governor Adeleke did not and has not in any way planned or plotted any attack on either INEC or any electoral official”.

The APC has been accused of boasting about violently rigging the 2026 governorship elections, with Rasheed claiming to have evidence. However, Governor Adeleke remains confident, citing the PDP’s “enhanced backing” from the people of Osun State.

The 2026 Osun governorship election is shaping up to be contentious, with both parties trading accusations. The APC’s Ife Zone has already laid claim to the party’s candidacy.

As tensions rise, the people of Osun State await the outcome of this defamation suit and the upcoming election.
