The Oyo State government has recently approved the recruitment of 791 officers into its civil service, marking the largest intake in the past two decades. This development was announced by Alhaji Kamoru Aderibigbe, Chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, in a statement released in Ibadan.
According to Aderibigbe, the recruitment will comprise 230 education officers and 561 officers in various other departments within the civil service. This recruitment drive is a significant step towards strengthening the state’s workforce and providing opportunities for qualified individuals to contribute to Oyo State’s development.
Aderibigbe explained that the limited number of recruits was due to the governor’s approval of converting officers with higher educational qualifications employed in lower cadres by the previous administration. He noted that about 1,500 workers have been converted through the governor’s magnanimity since the beginning of this administration.
To ensure fairness and equity in the recruitment process, prospective applicants must apply through the state government’s job portal from October 7 to October 11, 2024. Eligibility requirements include university graduates with a minimum of second-class lower division for degree positions, polytechnic graduates with a minimum of lower credit for Higher National Diploma positions, and NYSC discharge or exemption certificates for university and polytechnic graduates.
The commission emphasizes its commitment to competence without political interference. Aderibigbe stated, “This recruitment will be the highest into the mainstream of the civil service in the last two decades.” He added that the recruitment would target candidates specializing in 35 teaching subjects for Ministry of Education-controlled schools and 45 different cadres within the core civil service.
