President Tinubu Focuses on Economic Restructuring, Not Re-election, at APC South West Assembly

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has stated that his focus remains on the economic restructuring of Nigeria, and he is not preoccupied with his re-election or the 2027 general elections. Tinubu, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, made the remarks during the 2024 South West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held on Saturday at the Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The President emphasized that his administration is committed to the long-term benefit of Nigerians and urged the public to remain patient as his government works towards meaningful progress. “I am not thinking about re-election or the 2027 elections. My focus is on restructuring the economy to benefit Nigerians,” Tinubu said through Gbajabiamila. He added that the government is dedicated to creating real, lasting improvements in the lives of the people.

At the gathering, Isaac Kekemeke, the APC National Vice Chairman for the Southwest region, highlighted the significance of the assembly as an opportunity for reflection and strategy. “The purpose of this assembly is to evaluate the APC’s performance in the Southwest and assess where we stand. We must chart a path forward to ensure continued success,” Kekemeke explained during his speech.

Kekemeke also took the opportunity to praise President Tinubu for his courage and determination in addressing Nigeria’s development challenges. He expressed optimism that the efforts being made by the government would soon bear fruit. “We are optimistic that the benefits of President Tinubu’s efforts will soon be visible to all Nigerians,” he said.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also spoke at the event, underscoring the potential of the South West region. Sanwo-Olu described the region as being blessed with “vast natural and human resources, exceptional creativity, intellectual strength, and a rich cultural heritage.” He called for the continued development of these assets to drive Nigeria’s progress.

The gathering in Lagos provided an opportunity for APC members in the Southwest to come together, reflect on past achievements, and strategize for the future. It also served as a platform to discuss the party’s next steps and the way forward in ensuring continued political and economic success for the region.

In addition to the economic focus, several party leaders emphasized the need for unity within the APC as it moves forward with its plans. The event provided a glimpse into the party’s broader strategy as it prepares for the future, while also managing the challenges that come with governance.

As Nigeria continues to navigate its economic and social challenges, President Tinubu’s remarks signal his administration’s commitment to long-term solutions, even as the country looks ahead to future elections.
