President Tinubu Re-designates Key Communications Roles to Strengthen Government Messaging

TINUBU

President Bola Tinubu has made strategic adjustments within his communications team, re-designating the roles of two key officials in a move aimed at optimizing the government’s messaging and communications strategy. The changes were confirmed in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser on communication and strategy, who explained that the reorganization would help improve the dissemination of government policies and decisions to the public.

Under the new structure, Sunday Dare, who previously served as the special adviser on public communication and national orientation, will now take on the role of special adviser on media and public communications. Daniel Bwala, who was appointed as special adviser on media and public communication earlier, will now assume the position of special adviser on policy communication. The new designations reflect a shift in focus to streamline and enhance communication efforts within the presidency.

In his statement, Onanuga explained that these adjustments are part of an overarching strategy to strengthen the government’s communication framework. “These appointments, along with the existing role of special adviser, information and strategy, underscore that there is no single individual spokesperson for the presidency,” he clarified. “Instead, all three special advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the government to ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, decisions, and engagements.”

The reshuffling comes after a period of public speculation sparked by Daniel Bwala’s recent announcement on social media, where he identified himself as the new presidential spokesperson. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bwala shared, “Today, I resumed officially as the Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications/Spokesperson (State House). I am happy to have joined a meeting of the robust and fantastic communication team of Mr. President. I love the existing unity among the team and hope we can leverage on that even for more synergy.”

Bwala’s post, which described his role in a manner that appeared to establish him as the sole spokesperson for the presidency, led to some confusion regarding the distribution of media responsibilities. The announcement prompted clarification from Onanuga, who emphasized that the changes are intended to ensure a collective and cohesive approach to communicating the government’s policies.

The restructuring reflects the administration’s aim to create a more unified and efficient communications strategy that can respond to the increasing demands of public engagement and information sharing. The three advisers, Onanuga, Dare, and Bwala, will now work closely together to ensure that messages from the presidency are consistent and clear
