The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), a prominent umbrella group representing youth organizations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, has officially endorsed Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the position of Governor of Lagos State in the 2027 elections. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday following an expanded meeting of the coalition’s leaders in Owerri, Imo State.
The statement was signed by key members of the group, including President General Comrade Goodluck Ibem, Secretary Comrade Junard Abubakar, Public Relations Officer Comrade Iniobong Sampson, and Publicity Secretary Comrade Adeyemo Adewale. According to the coalition, the decision to support Seyi Tinubu for governor was reached after a thorough evaluation of his father’s leadership legacy and the need for fresh, youthful leadership in Lagos State.
The group highlighted the impressive governance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, which saw the state emerge as what is now famously known as the “Center of Excellence.” The coalition emphasized that the dynamic leadership of President Tinubu was pivotal in transforming Lagos into the economic and cultural powerhouse it is today, and they believe that his son, Seyi Tinubu, is the right person to build upon that foundation.
In the statement, CONYL explained that their endorsement of Seyi Tinubu is based on a shared vision for the future of Lagos State. “Nigerian youths came to this conclusion because Lagos State has been a home for all Nigerians, and who becomes the governor of the state is pivotal, given the role the state has played since the inception of the country,” the statement read. The coalition believes that Seyi Tinubu’s leadership qualities and experience make him uniquely qualified to continue his father’s work in the state.
The group also emphasized the need for a youthful, visionary leader to guide Lagos in the coming years. “Lagos State needs a youth with wonderful ideas and experience to govern as her governor,” the statement asserted, adding that these qualities are embodied in Seyi Tinubu. According to the coalition, Seyi has already demonstrated his leadership skills through various achievements and has proven his ability to succeed in any role or assignment entrusted to him.
In a further plea, the group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider the desires of Nigerian youths by giving Seyi Tinubu the opportunity to lead Lagos. “We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to please consider the yearnings of Nigerian youths and consider one of them, the person of Seyi Tinubu, to be given an opportunity to showcase what Nigerian youths can do when given the opportunity,” they said.
The statement concluded with a strong endorsement of Seyi Tinubu’s capabilities, affirming that he possesses all the necessary attributes to succeed as governor. “Seyi Tinubu is gifted, qualified, experienced, well-read, and capable of leading Lagos State to the promised land come 2027,” the coalition declared, signaling their firm belief in his potential to lead the state into a prosperous future.
