Tinubu Assures Nigerians of Religious Neutrality in Security Matters

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges without religious bias. He made this statement on Friday while receiving members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the State House in Abuja.

In a statement released by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized that insecurity affects all Nigerians, regardless of their religious background. “This insecurity, everyone is affected, Christians, Muslims alike. I have no religious bias; I won’t be a bigot. My wife is a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church,” he said.

The President further stressed the need for unity and national development beyond religious sentiments. “We have to think of our country; this country must develop and must stand beyond religious bigotry. And I’m here open to you, ready to listen. We’ve been together for some time. We have an open-door policy. I will not shut my door,” he assured the bishops.

Amid economic hardships facing the country, Tinubu reassured Nigerians of his commitment to leading a responsive government. He acknowledged the difficulties but maintained that his administration was focused on policies that would bring long-term benefits.

The President also discussed the controversial removal of fuel subsidies, a decision he took upon assuming office in 2023. He argued that it was a necessary step to ensure economic stability, promote competition in the petroleum sector, and attract investments. He noted that farmers were experiencing bountiful harvests, which could help stabilize food prices.

Addressing security concerns, Tinubu acknowledged that the situation remained challenging but expressed confidence in the efforts of security agencies. He maintained that their interventions were yielding positive results and stressed that insecurity impacts all Nigerians, regardless of their faith.
