Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has shared insight into her personal life and why she remains unmarried at the age of 54, revealing that she has never dated any of her colleagues in the Nigerian movie industry. In a candid interview with 3PLE Nolly TV, the actress explained that she considers her fellow actors as “brothers” and has always prioritized maintaining a professional boundary in her career.
Akintola was clear about her stance on relationships within the Nollywood industry, saying, “No, I never dated any actor at any point in my career; I don’t like you people.” She emphasized that while she respected her colleagues, they were never potential romantic partners. “All of you are my brothers, straight. It’s not about the kind of men I’m attached to; I just wasn’t attracted to people in the workplace.”
When asked why she avoided dating actors, Akintola explained that she always aimed to maintain a professional environment on set. “My frame of mind when I come to work is the frame of work of an actor who wants to be professional, so I don’t see you as dateable people, all of you,” she added. Despite the presence of many handsome actors in the industry, she revealed that she never thought of dating any of them. “We have really handsome actors, but I’ve never thought of dating any one of them…honestly. It doesn’t mean they didn’t toast me though,” she said, humorously acknowledging that she had received romantic interest from colleagues, but it never led to anything serious.
The actress also discussed how she has managed to avoid scandals and controversies over the years, despite her high profile in Nollywood. Akintola shared that when she started her career, she was often the subject of false rumors and gossip. “When I first started, there was a lot of controversy and all sorts of things written about me; horrible stuff,” she said. One of the more bizarre rumors she recalled was that people claimed she did not wear underwear, a story that generated significant attention at the time.
According to Akintola, such false narratives were driven by the media’s desire to create sensational stories. “I think what it is is that news like that flies and sells so you have more traction and more people on the blog and people buying the papers,” she explained. She reflected on how things have changed since then, noting that while controversies still make headlines, the nature of the stories has evolved.
