Former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Kano state, Bashir Ishaq Bashir, has officially resigned from the party and announced his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This news comes after Bashir withdrew his support for Peter Obi, the LP presidential candidate, and declared his support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential flag bearer.

During a press briefing at Horizon Hotel in Kano, Bashir stated that he led other LP chieftains to boycott the LP presidential rally held at the Kano Pillars stadium, Sabon Gari area of Kano on January 22.

He also outlined his reasons for leaving the LP and endorsing Tinubu, which included the lack of consultation from LP leaders and the desire to swing the vote in favour of the APC.

Bashir’s decision to join the APC has been met with mixed reactions, with some members of the LP accusing him of being opportunistic and betraying the party.

However, Bashir remains steadfast in his decision and has vowed to use his platform, known as the game changer for Asiwaju/Shettima 2023, to deliver Tinubu and other APC candidates in Kano.

“We have also resolved to leverage our existing political structures to work on the mass mobilisation of voters and swinging of votes to ensure his (Tinubu’s) emergence as the president of Nigeria. We shall be known as Game Changers for Asiwaju/Shettima 2023. Our slogan is “Sabon Lale”…Swinging the Votes. We shall return to the fold of the APC,” Bashir said.
