It indeed was a big loss for people of Lagos State and Nigeria the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo representing Lagos East.
Senator Osinowo, who was buried on Monday according to the Islamic rites at his residence in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State has been described by many as a stabilising figure whose death hurt deeply. Before his death, Osinowo was not only a devout Muslim; he remained one of the few committed Muslims in politics.
Osinowo a.k.a. Pepper began his political career as the Ogun State Youth Chairman of the National Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic, in 1979, and was a four-term lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly. He served as chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing for 11 years before he contested and won senate ticket.
Many would have wondered how he got the name ‘Pepper’. It was scooped that he was first nicknamed Pepper Eyes while in secondary school due to his red eyeballs which was later shortened to Pepper.
Pepper remains a stabilizer and political force even in death. Pity, that political jobbers have been fighting for his position when he was hardly laid to rest
