Eguavoen Denies Stepping Down as Super Eagles Interim Coach

Austin Eguavoen, Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has denied reports that he has stepped down as interim coach of the Super Eagles after the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Eguavoen was appointed to take charge of the two games following the inability of the NFF to secure the services of German coach, Bruno Labbadia.

Under Eguavoen’s leadership, the Super Eagles secured a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a goalless draw against Rwanda.

However, reports emerged that Eguavoen had stepped down as interim coach after the Rwanda game, which he has denied.

Eguavoen stated, “It’s quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct… I’m still very much in charge. I’m the Technical Director of the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles at this moment.”

He clarified that he had only discussed sitting down with the NFF hierarchy to plan for the next games, but had not resigned.

Eguavoen’s denial comes ahead of next month’s AFCON qualifiers double header against Libya, which he will still lead the Super Eagles into.
