Dangote Refinery’s Petrol Fails to Reach Independent Marketers

A week after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) began loading petrol from Dangote Petroleum Refinery, independent marketers are still awaiting supply.

“We are waiting to start,” said Abubakar Maigandi, National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).

NNPC commenced loading 16.8 million liters of petrol from the refinery last Sunday, but independent marketers have yet to receive any.

Olufemi Soneye, NNPC spokesperson, confirmed that over 70 trucks departed the refinery on the first day, but IPMAN members have not received supply.

Chief Ukadike Chinede, IPMAN’s National Publicity Secretary, stated, “We haven’t started getting Dangote fuel from NNPC. NNPC is still serving us with their imported products.”

Independent marketers are willing buyers, but NNPC has not communicated about Dangote petrol supply. Ukadike noted, “NNPC has been supplying Dangote petrol to major oil marketers, not IPMAN.”

The high cost of Dangote petrol is attributed to logistics costs and diesel prices. Ukadike explained, “NNPC sells at N776/litre to major marketers, but not to independent marketers.”

Major marketers confirmed buying petrol from NNPC at N766/litre, but could not disclose the price Dangote sold it to NNPC.

NNPC’s Soneye stated the company bought petrol from Dangote at N898/litre, disputed by the refinery.
