Katsina Troops Gearing Up Against Banditry

In a decisive move to tackle ongoing insecurity in Katsina State, Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar has called on the troops of the 17 Brigade to intensify their efforts against banditry. Addressing troops at the Katsina-Zamfara border town of Gurbin Baure, Abubakar emphasized that President Bola Tinubu “is ready to supply everything” necessary to combat the menace. This commitment underscores the government’s focus on ensuring safety in the region.

During his visit, Abubakar received briefings on the military’s current operations against banditry, stating, “President Tinubu has recognized the improvement in the onslaught operation against banditry in the state so far.” His comments reflect a growing confidence in the progress made by the troops over the past few months in the fight against armed groups.

Abubakar was effusive in his praise for the troops, noting, “President Tinubu has asked me to thank you and to also encourage you to do more in ending insecurity in these operational areas.” This endorsement from the highest levels of government aims to motivate the soldiers to continue their vital work in the face of persistent challenges.

As he addressed the troops, the minister posed a pointed question: “Are you ready to finish them off? Are you ready to end banditry? Soon?” This call to action is intended to galvanize the forces as they prepare for a renewed offensive against criminal activities in the region.

In discussions with the media, Abubakar highlighted recent improvements, stating, “For the last few months there has been progress every day.” He acknowledged the cooperation among states in the North-West, which is crucial for a united front against banditry. He urged the public to support the military’s efforts, reinforcing the need for community engagement in this battle.

The minister detailed his road journey through areas known for kidnappings, stating, “Zaria-Gusau Road has been very notorious for kidnappers.” He expressed satisfaction with the military’s re-strategized deployments, noting that the improvements have been effective in curtailing attacks on motorists in the area.

Accompanied by Maj Gen Oluyinka Soyele, commander of the Joint Task Force North-West Operation Fansar Yamma, Abubakar was received by Brig. Gen. B.O. Omopariola, commander of the 17 Brigade Katsina State. This collaboration reflects a unified approach to addressing the pressing security challenges that continue to affect the region.
