Wunmi Aloba, the widow of late Nigerian artist Mohbad, has made headlines with her recent decision to take a DNA test for her son, Liam, marking a significant change from her previous stance. Earlier this year, during an Instagram live session, she stated emphatically, “I will never do any DNA test, no one can tell me to do DNA on my son Liam.” Wunmi had expressed her deep connection with Mohbad, insisting, “Mohbad was the one who disvirgined me, and I have never slept with any other man in my entire life except Mohbad.”
In a newly released video, her lawyer, Barrister Akingbolu, revealed that Wunmi has consented to the long-discussed DNA test. This test aims to confirm to her father-in-law, Mr. Joseph Aloba, and others that Liam is indeed Mohbad’s son. Akingbolu emphasized the importance of this decision, stating, “Wunmi’s move is not just about compliance; it’s a powerful statement for her son’s respect and her late husband’s legacy.”
Despite her initial reluctance, Wunmi’s decision comes in response to overwhelming pressure following her husband’s death. Akingbolu explained that she felt exploited by both family and online critics, stating, “Mr. Aloba and numerous online critics exploited her grief to put her in a difficult position,” underscoring the emotional toll this situation has taken on her.
The barrister further criticized Mr. Aloba for allegedly using media to orchestrate a negative campaign against Wunmi. He claimed that the elder Aloba aimed to undermine her credibility and that of her son, asserting, “The pressure has been relentless, and it’s essential for Wunmi to stand firm for Liam’s sake.”
Wunmi’s choice to undergo the DNA test, done independently and without a court’s approval, symbolizes her commitment to protecting her son’s identity and honoring her late husband’s memory. Akingbolu described this decision as “a bold move,” emphasizing that it represents much more than a legal obligation.
As this story unfolds, it has sparked public interest and discussions about family dynamics, grief, and the enduring legacy of Mohbad.
