EFCC Transfers Bobrisky to Abuja Over Bribery Allegations

Controversial social media personality and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, was re-arrested on Thursday night and is set to face interrogation regarding allegations of bribery and corruption in Abuja. According to an official from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Bobrisky will be flown to Abuja today for questioning.

Bobrisky’s arrest occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, where he was stopped and removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight. Reports indicate that he was attempting to leave the country for London when immigration officers detained him late Thursday night. In a bid to inform his followers about the situation, Bobrisky took to Instagram, claiming he had sustained injuries during an altercation with the officers.

In his post, he alleged, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured,” further complicating the narrative surrounding his detention. However, sources indicate that his arrest stemmed from his failure to honor multiple invitations from the EFCC in response to allegations he made against the commission.

Bobrisky had previously been implicated in a voice note, shared by social critic Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, where he allegedly claimed to have bribed EFCC officers with N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. While the EFCC has denied these allegations, they have initiated an investigation into the matter.

At a press briefing on Thursday, Wilson Uwajaren, the Director of Public Affairs for the EFCC, hinted at the possibility of fresh charges against Bobrisky if his allegations were found to be false. Uwajaren stated, “One could be charged for giving false information to the EFCC, let alone making false allegations against the commission.”

A top source within the EFCC clarified Bobrisky’s situation, stating, “We have arrested him in Lagos today and will be flown to Abuja. He accused us of bribery and corruption; we invited him several times, but he did not show up. He who alleges must be ready to prove. Those allegations are too weighty to allow slide.”

When contacted for confirmation, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, verified Bobrisky’s arrest, stating, “Bobrisky is on his way to Abuja as we speak.”
