Russian Kremlin Denies Phone Call Between Putin and Trump Ahead of 2025 Return to White House

As former President Donald Trump prepares for a potential return to the White House in 2025, reports have emerged claiming he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call, urging him to de-escalate the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to The Washington Post, Trump advised Putin against further aggression, reminding him of “Washington’s sizeable military presence in Europe.” Trump also expressed an interest in having a follow-up conversation about the “resolution of Ukraine’s war soon.”

However, the Russian government quickly rejected the reports. Dmitry Peskov, President Putin’s press secretary, dismissed the claims as “completely untrue” and labeled the information as “pure fiction.” Speaking to Russian media outlets, Peskov said, “This is the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is now published sometimes even in fairly respected publications,” indicating his frustration with what he described as inaccurate reports.

Despite Peskov’s denial, the reports continue to fuel speculation about Trump’s approach to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Republican President-elect has repeatedly vowed to bring the war to a swift end once he takes office in January 2025. Trump has claimed that he could end the conflict “within 24 hours,” although he has yet to outline a detailed plan for how he would accomplish such a rapid resolution.

While Trump has promised a quick end to the war, he has faced criticism for his lack of clarity regarding the specifics of his strategy. His comments about achieving peace in Ukraine have raised questions about whether he intends to shift U.S. foreign policy toward a more conciliatory approach to Russia, which has faced widespread sanctions and international condemnation for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In a related development, reports also surfaced that Trump had engaged in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the Kremlin has remained firm in its stance that any talks about Ukraine would not result in a shift in Russia’s objectives. “Putin is ready to discuss Ukraine, but that does not mean he is willing to change his strategic plans,” said a Kremlin spokesperson last week, according to MailOnline.

The tension surrounding Trump’s rhetoric and potential foreign policy shifts highlights the deep divisions over U.S. involvement in Ukraine. While some Republicans have supported continued aid to Kyiv, others, including Trump, have argued for a reevaluation of America’s role in the conflict. These differing views are likely to shape the foreign policy landscape in the coming years, especially as Trump prepares to take office once again.

As the situation in Ukraine remains dire and unresolved, world leaders continue to watch closely. The upcoming U.S. presidential election and its potential impact on the war in Ukraine could have significant consequences, not just for Ukraine but for global stability as a whole.
