Basketmouth Makes Debut in Film with “Ghetto Love Story”

Comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has officially entered the film industry with the release of his debut feature film, Ghetto Love Story. In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the comedian expressed his long-standing passion for filmmaking, revealing that it was always part of his plan. “In actual fact, it’s been a plan all along. I knew I was going to end up in the movies,” he said. “When I started comedy, I went to TV, and all along, I knew I was going to end up in movies. I enjoy making movies.”

Okpocha clarified that his decision to produce the film was driven by a desire for artistic expression rather than financial gain. “I didn’t do this movie to make money but to create art and excellence,” he explained. “But if it does, by the grace of God, I’ll make the money back, and if it doesn’t, I’ll challenge myself with this project.” Despite the challenges, including a 20 percent increase in production costs due to market volatility, he remained committed to maintaining high standards, saying, “I’d rather challenge myself to create something exceptional.”

The comedian also revealed that the financial obstacles did not deter him from pursuing his filmmaking ambitions. He shared his determination to produce high-quality work, saying, “I enjoy making movies,” and reaffirmed that his journey into the film industry was a natural progression from his comedy career. Although Ghetto Love Story marks his entry into filmmaking, Okpocha stressed that comedy would remain his primary focus moving forward.

Looking ahead, Okpocha reassured his fans that while more films are in the works, he will continue his comedy career. “Next year, I’m going on tour. I have my UK and US tours, and I’m going to have my show here in Nigeria,” he confirmed, indicating that his passion for comedy is as strong as ever, despite his new venture into the world of film.
