The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has expressed his commitment to being an active and engaged leader, stating that he will not remain idle while the people in various communities seek interaction with him. “I am not a Minister who will sit idle in office when people from different communities yearn to see and interact with me,” Wike declared as he flagged off the construction of the 19.5-kilometre Shereti-Keti road in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
In his address at the event, Wike emphasized his passion for engaging with the people he serves. “I derive joy in going out to interface and as well feel the pulse of the people who have entrusted me with the leadership position,” he shared. He added that the road project marked one of many efforts aimed at addressing the needs of the residents, especially those in rural areas.
Wike further explained that his administration’s focus on rural infrastructural development was in line with directives from President Bola Tinubu. “Mr. President has directed that we must also open up all the satellite paths and that is why we are in Shereti-Ketti today,” he said, underlining the significance of improving access to remote areas within the FCT.
The Shereti-Keti road project is just one example of the FCT administration’s dedication to improving infrastructure across the territory, particularly in underserved areas. Wike noted that such projects are essential not only for development but also for tackling key challenges faced by rural communities.
One of the pressing concerns raised by the Shereti-Keti community was insecurity, which has escalated in the region, including the tragic killing of a local chief by bandits. Wike empathized with the community, acknowledging their pain. “We have to come to tell you that we know what you face and we feel your pain. And we are here to solve your problem,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges.
The minister further reassured the residents that the new road project would play a critical role in improving security by enhancing connectivity and access to the area. He also promised additional support for the community, including the approval of a senior secondary school in Ketti. “Let me assure you, I have seen what you have written there, without even saying let me approve that Ketti will get a senior secondary school,” Wike stated.
