On Tuesday, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu held a significant meeting with former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The meeting took place ahead of the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, a crucial gathering aimed at advancing energy strategies across Africa.
An image of the encounter was shared on social media, with @Imran Muhdz, a user on X, commenting: “The former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo greeted President Tinubu during their encounter in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on January 28, 2025.” The photo highlighted the cordial atmosphere between the leaders.
Earlier in the week, President Tinubu arrived in Dar es Salaam at 10:20 p.m. local time (8:20 p.m. Nigerian time) to participate in the two-day summit. Upon his arrival, Tinubu was warmly received by Ali Ameir, Tanzania’s Minister of State in the Office of the President.
The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, which began on January 29, is co-hosted by the Government of Tanzania, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank Group. This summit is a pivotal platform for African nations to discuss strategies for achieving universal energy access by 2030.
The summit’s first day focused on a ministerial-level session, where participating countries, including Nigeria, presented their national energy strategies, referred to as “compacts.” These compacts outline each country’s approach to expanding energy access to their populations within the next five years.
Welcoming President Tinubu to the summit, Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank, expressed his delight in a social media post: “I was delighted to welcome H.E. President Tinubu @officialABAT to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania for the Africa Energy Summit, organized by the @AfDB_Group and the @WorldBank, with the Government of Tanzania. Thank you very much Mr. President for honoring us.”
The Africa Energy Summit is a crucial event that brings together key stakeholders in the energy sector, with the goal of fostering collaboration among governments, international organizations, and private sector actors. This year’s summit, under the theme of “Mission 300,” focuses on the need to accelerate energy access across the continent.
At the summit, President Tinubu and other leaders are expected to discuss the importance of sustainable energy solutions for Africa’s development, particularly in light of the continent’s growing energy demands and its role in the global economy.
