Popular singer Peter Okoye, formerly of the defunct music duo P-Square, has distanced himself from allegations that he played a role in the legal troubles of his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye. The denial comes amid growing controversy surrounding Jude’s arrest and remand over an alleged N1.38 billion fraud.
Tensions escalated on Friday when Paul Okoye, Peter’s twin brother and the other half of P-Square, publicly accused him of attempting to have Jude imprisoned. Speaking to journalists after a court hearing, Paul vowed to do everything in his power to secure their elder brother’s release. His comments fueled speculations that Peter was directly involved in the case against Jude.
In response, Peter’s manager, Emem Kush, dismissed the accusations, stating that Peter had no direct involvement in Jude’s legal predicament. “I don’t think Peter has any comments on this issue because it is based on the EFCC’s investigation into Jude Okoye. The EFCC is handling the matter, and they are in the best position to clarify their findings,” Kush told *Saturday Beat*.
Kush further clarified that Peter’s only involvement in the matter was related to a petition he filed against a company that had been managing funds on his behalf. “Peter’s petition was strictly against the company, not against Jude. Any claims suggesting otherwise are completely false,” Kush added.
Jude Okoye was remanded in prison on Friday by the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. The charges against him were brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriating N1.38 billion. The case has drawn significant public interest, particularly given the longstanding financial and personal disputes among the Okoye brothers.
The legal battle has once again highlighted the deep-seated tensions within the Okoye family. The fallout from P-Square’s split in 2017 has seen multiple public feuds between the brothers, with financial disagreements often at the center of their disputes. This latest controversy appears to have further widened the rift.
As the legal proceedings continue, all eyes remain on the EFCC’s case against Jude and how the family will navigate yet another crisis in their already strained relationship. Neither
