“I Don’t Want to Be Identified with You Lots!” – Sola Allyson

Gospel singer Sola Allyson has expressed her frustration after receiving criticism from a social media user who took issue with her not explicitly mentioning “Jesus” in her songs. The backlash comes shortly after renowned gospel musician Dr. Panam Percy Paul revealed that he turned down £24 million in 1995 to preserve the use of the name “Jesus” in his music. Allyson’s response has sparked a conversation about the nature of faith, music, and personal authenticity.

In her public response, Allyson questioned the motivations behind the criticism, suggesting that some of her detractors may be attempting to pressure her into conforming to their expectations. “Why are you people this callous and unkind?” she wrote on social media platform X. “If this is what you are with your own Jesus, I don’t want to be identified with you lots!” Allyson’s comments reflect her frustration with the judgmental attitude of some individuals who claim to follow Jesus but engage in behavior she finds negative and harsh.

The singer went on to suggest that her critics may be struggling with low self-esteem or seeking validation through their attempts to criticize her. She asked, “Can you see why really true souls who have found themselves distance themselves from you?” Allyson questioned whether some people were attempting to fill a “dark space” with others who could validate them. She also pondered whether these individuals were projecting their own insecurities and looking for approval through the bullying of others.

Allyson emphasized that her music, while it may not always explicitly reference Jesus, is still deeply rooted in her faith and values. She argued that the essence of her work is about the spiritual journey and connection to God, rather than the use of specific words or phrases. “I don’t want to be a part of dark souls who outwardly present ‘Jesus’!” she stated, adding that the Jesus she knows would never endorse such behavior. Her strong stance highlights her commitment to maintaining her integrity as an artist.

The controversy surrounding Allyson’s music is not new. She has faced similar criticism in the past for not always directly mentioning Jesus in her songs, with some questioning her authenticity as a gospel artist. “Ṣèbí it’s GOD that souls should be drawn to?” she wrote in a follow-up post. “Ṣèbí it’s GOD that Jesus Leads us to… I don’t understand the bashing o. Over 20 years now!”
