In a recent interview with Sunday Scoop, actress and businesswoman Liz Anjorin opened up about her feelings towards veteran gospel singer Tope Alabi, despite the controversy that erupted following the latter’s refusal to participate in a surprise birthday event organized for Anjorin. Anjorin made it clear that the incident would not alter her admiration for Alabi, stating, “I have a lot of projects I am working on for me to be dwelling on what my sister (Alabi) has done. It has nothing to do with my personal life. People that hold grudges would not be able to move on and be productive.”
Anjorin went on to emphasize that she would not allow the incident to affect her relationship with Alabi. “Do you think because she did not honour me yesterday, I will not greet her when I see her? I will still greet her with my two knees on the floor. Whatever she has done is between her and God,” she added, showing an unwavering respect for the gospel singer despite the misunderstanding.
The controversy began on Friday when Tope Alabi, who was hired to perform at Anjorin’s surprise birthday event, refused to come down from her car after discovering that the celebrant was Anjorin. Sources revealed that Alabi’s performance was secured by Anjorin’s fans in the Diaspora, who had paid N2.5 million for her appearance. However, Alabi reportedly returned the payment after the situation unfolded.
In response to the incident, Sunday Scoop asked Anjorin if there were any underlying issues that may have contributed to Alabi’s refusal to participate in the event. The actress was quick to clarify that she had never had any problems with the gospel singer. “I have never had issues with her. In my live show, I stated some facts there. I have been to her concert before and I didn’t have an issue with her. I like Aunty Tope, she is my very good sister,” Anjorin explained.
She also noted that the situation might have been a misunderstanding, and that Alabi’s refusal to perform may have been an unintended mistake. “What happened yesterday might have even been a mistake. We are human beings and nobody can tell what happened except her,” she said.
Anjorin was adamant that the conflict was not necessarily between herself and Alabi but rather involved the individuals who had arranged the performance. She expressed her belief that the situation could have been handled differently, but she was determined not to let it affect her relationship with the gospel singer.
