A Prosecution Witness in the on-going trial, in Lagos, of former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, over fraud and abuse of office has denied ever interfacing with the former governor when his company got contracts from the apex court.
The PW4, Victor Onyejiuwa, Chief Executive Officer of Resource Computer Ltd, during cross-examination by Emefiele’s leading lawyer, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, SAN, told Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court, Ikeja, that there was no signature of Emefiele awarding contracts to his company in any of the documents given to him.
“Also from the documents concerning the award, none has the imput of committee members of the CBN. I have never appeared before the board of CBN for contracts.
“My company did not get documents for authorisation of payment. We source money accounts from various banks and several banks for purchase of dollars”. said the witness.
According to the Witness, there was nowhere he wrote in his statement to EFCC that Emefiele ever demanded any money from his company.
“I have never come in contact with the first defendant (Emefiele) or any member of CBN committee. The only person I came in contact with is one John Ayoh, who I believe was acting on behalf of CBN.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is trying Emefiele alongside one Henry Isioma Omoile in the 26-count charge of $4.5 billion and £2.8 preferred against them.
The charges against them include abuse of office and irregular allocation of cumulative $4.5 billion and £2.8 billion while Emefiele was in office as CBN Governor.
They pleaded not guilty to all the charges, after which the court granted them bail.
