NAFDAC Workers Announce 72-Hour Strike Notice Over Anti-Worker Practices

Employees of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have issued a 72-hour strike notice, threatening to commence an indefinite nationwide strike if their grievances are not addressed by October 7, 2024. The workers are protesting persistent anti-worker practices within the agency and management’s failure to resolve these issues.

Comrade Salih Ahmed Aledeh, General Secretary of the in-house union, explained that the strike decision followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum given to NAFDAC management. “In a significant development affecting Nigeria’s public health sector, workers at NAFDAC will initiate an indefinite strike beginning at 12:01 AM on October 7, 2024,” Aledeh stated, citing the lack of response to issues outlined during a congress meeting on September 20.

The strike directive has been fully endorsed by the Federal Area Council of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, and all NAFDAC staff have been instructed to participate. The move highlights rising dissatisfaction among workers regarding poor working conditions and management’s inadequate response to their concerns.
