The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, expressed concern over Nigeria’s high levels of fake and substandard drugs.
Speaking at a sensitization campaign in Ibadan, Adeyeye revealed plans to engage with religious leaders, traditional rulers, and healthcare providers.
“Our survey shows a high prevalence of substandard products nationwide,” Adeyeye said. “Fakers exploit technological advancements, making sensitization crucial.”
The agency aims to educate citizens on avoiding unwholesome products.
Adebayo Gbadamosi, Chairman of Oyo State’s Community Pharmacists Association, urged citizens to patronize registered pharmacists.
“Some drugs have scratch-off authenticity checks,” Gbadamosi said. “Informed citizens can discourage quacks by avoiding fake drugs.”
NAFDAC’s efforts target reducing substandard medicine prevalence through awareness and collaboration.
