MKO Abiola’s Son Accuses Brother of Withholding Inheritance

Abdulmumuni Abiola, one of the sons of the late Nigerian business magnate Chief MKO Abiola, has claimed that his elder brother Kola Abiola has withheld a portion of the inheritance left for him and his sisters in their father’s will. Abdulmumuni’s comments came during a recent appearance on the ‘Mic On Podcast’ hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, where he detailed the distribution of £650,000 left by MKO Abiola to his first four wives.

A copy of MKO Abiola’s will was displayed during the podcast, revealing the amounts allocated to his wives. The will showed that Abiola’s first wife, Simbiat, received £300,000; his second wife, Kudirat, was allocated £150,000; while his third wife, Moriamo, received £100,000 and his fourth wife, Idiat, was also allocated £100,000. Abdulmumuni explained that this division of the wealth was part of a systematic plan by his father to ensure fairness among his wives.

Abdulmumuni, who has been vocal about the family’s issues with the will, accused his brother Kola of obstructing the rightful distribution of the inheritance. “At the time, Kola had sighted the fact that my mum died before my dad died, and because of that, British law would not allow him to release the £150,000 to us,” he claimed. Kudirat, Abdulmumuni’s mother, was the second wife of MKO Abiola and had passed away before her husband.

Further expressing his frustration, Abdulmumuni pointed out that Kola had also used the argument that their mother was deceased to justify not releasing the funds. “He also said that his mum too is dead and he didn’t get the £300,000 for his mother. But you are the one sharing the money, so it’s odd… If he wanted to, he could have given us the money,” Abdulmumuni said.

The disagreement between the brothers has been a long-standing issue, particularly regarding the distribution of Abiola’s estate. Abdulmumuni also mentioned that the family had carried out several DNA tests to verify the legitimate heirs to MKO Abiola’s vast wealth. He emphasized that these steps were crucial in confirming the rightful beneficiaries, ensuring that the family’s claims were legitimate and grounded in law.

During the podcast, Abdulmumuni spoke about how his family was left to struggle financially after the deaths of both their parents. He revealed that the funds from the inheritance would have been helpful in supporting his family during a time of hardship. “It would have been useful to us to have those funds,” he said, lamenting the financial challenges his family had faced without the resources that should have been rightfully theirs.

Abdulmumuni further accused his brother of making decisions without consulting the rest of the family. He pointed out that Kola had sold his mother’s apartment in the UK without informing him or his siblings. “Not to mention my mum’s apartment in the UK, before we knew anything, Kola had sold it without telling my brothers or my sister anything about it,” he added. This act, he said, highlighted the ongoing efforts by Kola to diminish his mother’s side of the family’s assets.

As the dispute over MKO Abiola’s will continues to make headlines, Abdulmumuni expressed deep resentment toward his elder brother, stating that he would likely never be able to forgive him for his actions. “So, you can see that they were systematic to try to impoverish my mum’s side of the family,” Abdulmumuni said, suggesting that the division of assets was done with a deliberate intention to undermine his family.
