In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media, Allen Onyema, the Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, recounted the emotional moment he purchased his first aircraft. Reflecting on the significance of this milestone, he admitted, “I cried, I wept.” This moment of joy and disbelief came during the airline’s 10th anniversary celebration, showcasing the remarkable journey from his modest roots to becoming a leader in the aviation industry.
Onyema vividly recalled the day he acquired his first aircraft, a Dornier 328, during negotiations in Monaco. “I was in Monaco when we negotiated the sale,” he explained. “We took the delivery of the aircraft from the airport in Nice, France.” This was not just a business transaction; it marked a personal triumph for Onyema, who had faced numerous challenges in his journey.
The emotional weight of the experience was evident as he shared, “When we were flying, I just sat in the aircraft, looked down and said to myself, ‘So, I bought this aircraft?’” This moment of reflection, shared with his colleague Engr. Gbolahan Abatan, encapsulated the pride and gratitude he felt for reaching such a significant milestone in his career.
Even the act of signing the delivery took on a special significance for Onyema, taking place “over the international waters” before landing in Bournemouth, England. He revealed, “Even today, the motivation and only satisfaction I get is when I get to the airport and see our planes taking off and landing.” This connection to the airline’s success fuels his passion and commitment to Air Peace.
Onyema’s journey illustrates not only his personal growth but also the airline’s evolution over the past decade. “It raises my adrenaline,” he noted, expressing his excitement at seeing Air Peace aircraft in the sky. “I like going on the street and looking towards the sky seeing an aircraft, and it is Air Peace. It is addictive.” His story serves as a testament to perseverance and the fulfillment that comes from achieving one’s dreams.
