Officials Limited to 3-Vehicle Convoy- Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has implemented a new directive that limits ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies to no more than three vehicles in their official convoys. This measure is designed to improve efficiency within the government while reinforcing a commitment to fiscal responsibility.

The announcement was conveyed through a statement from Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, who stressed that “no additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement.” This policy represents a significant shift in governance, as the administration works to optimize resources and reduce unnecessary expenditures.

Earlier this year, President Tinubu took similar steps to streamline government delegations for official travel. In January, he reduced the size of his entourage for foreign trips from 50 officials to 20, while also capping local trip delegations at 25. The Vice President’s team was similarly cut down to five for international trips and 15 for domestic ones, reflecting a clear trend toward austerity.

In addition to vehicle restrictions, today’s directive mandates that ministers and agency heads may have no more than five security personnel. Tinubu outlined that “the security team will comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services, DSS, officer,” reiterating that “no additional security personnel will be assigned.”

To ensure these measures are implemented effectively, President Tinubu has instructed the National Security Adviser to work with military, paramilitary, and security agencies to evaluate and potentially reduce the number of vehicles and security personnel assigned to government officials. This holistic approach aims to foster greater accountability and streamline operations across the board.

Affected officials are expected to adhere to these new regulations immediately.
