“I Was Invited, Not Arrested,” Pastor Bolaji Idowu Addresses Police Incident and Media Reports

Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Centre (HICC) has responded to recent reports regarding his interaction with the Nigerian Police, clarifying that he was not arrested but invited to assist in an ongoing investigation involving a church member. In a video message shared with his congregation on the morning of Sunday, December 8, 2024, Pastor Idowu aimed to clear the air surrounding the situation and emphasize his cooperation with authorities.

“I was invited, not arrested. The Police reached out to me to assist in an investigation related to a church member who had encountered some legal troubles,” Pastor Idowu explained, addressing the confusion and rumors that had spread following the news. He reassured his followers that he was not facing any charges and that he was merely providing assistance to the police.

The pastor also stressed that he is innocent in the matter and would not delve into the specifics of the case, given the ongoing investigation. “I want to make it clear that I am innocent in this matter. I cannot share too much due to the ongoing investigation and respect for the privacy of those involved,” he stated. His comments were intended to quell any doubts or misunderstandings among his congregation and the public.

Pastor Idowu expressed concern over the sensationalism in the media, which had distorted the details of the situation. He urged caution in the way the story had been reported, explaining that certain aspects of the case had been misrepresented. “There are families involved in this, and by speaking names, you would only be causing more harm to people who have loved ones. I trust the Police to handle the investigation,” he added, highlighting the importance of maintaining respect for the privacy of those affected.

In addition to addressing the police investigation, Pastor Idowu also addressed rumors about his personal finances, including a prophecy claiming he had N1.5 billion in his account. He dismissed these claims as false and reiterated his focus on the support he had received from his congregation. “The media has made claims about my financial standing, but I will only focus on the good that is said. Thank you to everyone who stood by me. Even without knowing all the facts, you stood firm and said, ‘that’s not our pastor,’” he concluded, expressing gratitude for the unwavering loyalty of his followers.
