Nollywood veteran, Kunle Afod has shared valuable insights from his 38 years of experience as an actor and director, emphasizing that life’s dynamics have taught him a profound lesson: “there is no friend or foe anywhere.” In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Afod revealed that he has learned not to view anyone as a permanent friend or enemy, stressing the importance of flexibility and awareness in personal and professional relationships.
Afod explained that people often have a tendency to view others in absolutes, but life has shown him that such views are not always accurate. “Someone believed as a friend can turn to be a traitor and another fellow perceived as an enemy may become instrumental to one’s success,” he said. According to Afod, this duality of life is something that everyone should be mindful of, as relationships are constantly evolving.
The actor, who began his career in 1986, reflected on his journey and the lessons he has picked up along the way. “I started acting in 1986 and I have learnt that there are no friends nor foes anywhere,” he shared. Afod emphasized the importance of adopting a liberal approach to relationships, urging others not to make rigid judgments about people’s roles in their lives. “The person you see as your friend might come to stab you and that fellow you see as your enemy might be the person that will help you,” he added.
Looking toward the future, Kunle Afod revealed plans to focus on larger-scale projects in 2025. “This year, I am looking toward the big screen,” he stated, hinting at his ambitions to produce a feature film. Additionally, Afod mentioned that he would continue working on his popular series, “The Proverbs Challenge,” and aimed to bring fresh, competitive content to his audience. “I will also be coming up with new series of the proverbs challenge this year. I like creating contents that are competitive,” he explained.
Throughout the interview, Afod also took the opportunity to offer advice to aspiring actors and directors. Drawing on his wealth of experience, he encouraged newcomers to focus on continuous self-improvement. “Directors should also be willing to carry out lots of research to improve on their work, upgrade their knowledge from time to time,” he advised, highlighting the importance of staying informed and evolving in the fast-paced entertainment industry.
As Afod prepares to roll out his new projects, both his insights and upcoming work are eagerly awaited by fans and colleagues in the industry. His journey from a young actor in 1986 to a respected figure in Nollywood stands as a testament to the lessons he has learned and the impact he continues to have on the industry.
