Speed Darlington

Controversial Nigerian artist, Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has filed a demand for ₦300 million in damages from the Nigerian police, alleging violations of his human rights. The musician shared details of the legal battle through an Instagram post on Thursday, expressing both frustration and confidence in his legal team.

In his post, Speed Darlington expressed gratitude to his legal representative, Mazi David Ihuoma, for his role in the case. He also highlighted the challenges faced during his detention, which he claims continued despite a court order for his release. According to Achakpo, the police’s actions were allegedly influenced by higher authorities involved in the matter.

“This is Mazi David Ihuoma, one of my big lawyers who played a big role in my case and continues to play,” the artist said in his post. “His confidence is 10/10. Even the police attested to his confidence and his forceful way, always reminding them that the police are corrupt, and they know it.”

Achakpo went on to criticize the police for defying the court’s directive to release him. He stated that their refusal to comply with the order demonstrated a disregard for justice and his fundamental rights. “They were supposed to let me go, and they were still holding me against the court order,” he emphasized.

The artist revealed that his legal team is determined to pursue the case until justice is served. He announced that he would be seeking ₦300 million in damages to hold the police accountable for what he described as a gross violation of his human rights. “We going all the way! They must pay me for violating my human rights—300 million naira,” he declared.

Speed Darlington also drew attention to his history of taking legal action against entities he believes have wronged him. He referred to a previous case involving a bank, which he and his legal team had successfully challenged two years ago. He expressed confidence in achieving a similar outcome in the current matter.
