Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, better known as Portable, has turned himself in to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, Lagos. His voluntary surrender follows his declaration as a wanted man by the Nigeria Police Force. The artist has been at the center of a police investigation involving multiple serious charges.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Portable had reported to the SCID in Lagos, following the ongoing investigation. “The Ogun State Police Command has been contacted to take custody of the artist for further investigation and prosecution,” Hundeyin stated. He emphasized that the case is under serious review by the authorities.
Portable, known for his hit song “Zazu,” is facing several allegations, including conspiracy, serious assault, going armed, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and attempted murder. The charges stem from an incident that took place on February 5, 2025, when the artist reportedly led a group of armed thugs in an attack on officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at the Ota Zonal Office.
The attack is said to have occurred during a dispute over an ongoing matter at the office. According to a Special Police Gazette Bulletin issued by the Inspector General of Police, Portable is accused of orchestrating the attack, during which several officials were reportedly assaulted. Authorities claim that the attack escalated to the point where it could have resulted in a more serious tragedy, leading to charges of attempted murder.
After the police issued an arrest warrant for Portable, he went into hiding, fueling speculation about his whereabouts. However, in a significant development, he decided to surrender himself to the SCID in Lagos, signaling a shift in the case’s progress. His voluntary surrender to the authorities may be seen as an attempt to address the serious charges against him and potentially avoid further legal complications.
Following the surrender, the Ogun State Police Command is expected to take over the case and begin legal proceedings. Authorities are now tasked with continuing the investigation into the allegations and determining whether Portable will face trial for the multiple offenses he is accused of committing.
