Lagos Police Arrest Three Suspects in Murder of LASU Graduate

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Adedamola Ogunbode, a 2024 graduate of Lagos State University (LASU). Additionally, the police are searching for five others linked to the crime. This development follows the announcement made by the police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement released on Friday.

Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate from LASU, had been missing since January 16, 2025. Speculation surrounding his disappearance intensified when rumors surfaced that his mutilated body had been found. The case, initially treated as a missing persons investigation, has since been reclassified as a suspected murder investigation.

According to Hundeyin, the three individuals arrested include Whepetoji Sunday, a pastor, who is accused of withdrawing N70,000 from the victim’s account; and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member, who allegedly received N300,000 from Ogunbode’s account. Additionally, Omolara Ajisomo, who allegedly helped her children—Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo—flee to Cotonou, Benin Republic, after they received N300,000 each from the victim’s account, was also arrested.

“The case has now moved from a missing person’s report to a suspected murder investigation,” Hundeyin clarified. “Significant progress has been made in the investigation, and all efforts are being directed towards locating the body of the deceased and determining the exact cause of death.”

Hundeyin further revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had assured the public of the police command’s commitment to justice. “The command is fully committed to resolving the matter and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” he said.

In response to concerns raised by the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council, Hundeyin explained that Jimoh had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case. “All aspects of the case will be thoroughly examined, and the concerns of the students will be looked into,” Hundeyin assured.

Hundeyin also appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference. “There is no political interference in this investigation, and it will proceed unhindered and impartially, in line with the principles of justice and fairness,” he added.

The police spokesperson emphasized that the Commissioner of Police had reiterated the force’s commitment to arresting and prosecuting all those responsible for Ogunbode’s death. “No stone will be left unturned,” Hundeyin said, further assuring that the findings of the investigation would be made public in the interest of justice.

The investigation continues, with the police working diligently to uncover the full details of the crime and bring those responsible to justice.
