Abia State Government Announces New Minimum Wage Payment and Developmental Projects

The Abia State Government has announced that it will commence payment of the new minimum wage from October. State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made this known on Monday while briefing the press on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

According to Kanu, the payment “will cut across all categories of workers.” This move is expected to benefit workers across the state.

In addition to the minimum wage payment, the state government plans to strengthen the administration of justice by constructing 17 court halls across the 17 local government areas. The state Ministry of Health will also organize a free medical outreach at Ugwunnagbo, offering free medical consultations, maternal and child healthcare services, and diagnostic tests.

Governor Otti has also concluded plans to host para-Olympic athletes who made the state proud, including Miss Onyinyechi Mark and Miss Esther Nworgu, who won gold and silver medals respectively. This gesture aims to encourage Abia athletes and promote sports development in the state.
