An aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Mr. Fred Oghenesivbe, has accused Senator Ned Nwoko of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to concerns over securing the party’s governorship ticket for the 2027 elections. Oghenesivbe’s statement came in response to Nwoko’s decision to officially announce his defection from the PDP.
Nwoko, who was elected under the PDP platform in 2023, informed his ward in Aniocha North Local Government Area on January 30, 2025, of his decision to leave the party. In his letter, Nwoko cited the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP as the primary reason for his departure.
However, Oghenesivbe, who serves as the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau, provided a different perspective on Nwoko’s move. Speaking in an interview with TVC News, Oghenesivbe suggested that Nwoko’s defection was motivated by his fear of not securing the PDP governorship ticket in 2027.
“Senator Ned Nwoko defected because he is scared of not getting the PDP ticket in 2027,” Oghenesivbe claimed. “We all knew he would leave the party sooner or later. It is about 2027 politics and securing a ticket to run.”
Oghenesivbe further criticized Nwoko, saying that the senator’s actions have harmed the PDP at the national level. “So, Nwoko is somehow scared that he may not get the PDP ticket in 2027 because he has misrepresented our party at the national level,” he added.
