Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has issued a clear statement regarding her political affiliations, asserting that she is not a member of the Labour Party (LP) or any other political party. Despite her prominent role in the 2023 LP presidential campaign council, Yesufu revealed during an appearance on Seun Okinbaloye’s podcast Mic On that she has never held a party membership card. This clarification comes as speculation about her political leanings continues to swirl.
“Yes, I was part of the LP presidential campaign council, but I am not a member of the Labour Party. I have never been a card-carrying member of any party,” Yesufu said on Saturday. She took a firm stance in denying any involvement in party politics or interest in political appointments. “I dare anybody, living or dead, to say that I, Aisha Yesufu, have ever been to your place to look for an appointment, contract, or whatever,” she declared, making it clear that her activism is driven by principle, not personal gain.
Yesufu, a well-known figure for her outspoken activism and advocacy on national issues, also took the opportunity to emphasize her financial independence. “I worked on my financial independence before I started speaking on Nigerian issues,” she said. “I am a trader—I buy, I sell, I distribute, and I build and sell houses.” Her comments highlight her self-reliant approach to life, showcasing that her activism is not motivated by a desire for personal wealth or political favors.
Throughout the interview, Yesufu continued to distance herself from partisan politics, reiterating that her primary focus is on activism and addressing societal challenges. She emphasized that her work in the public sphere stems from her commitment to Nigerian citizens, rather than any political ambitions.
Her remarks have drawn attention, especially in the wake of her increasing prominence in social and political activism
